So, today was our school's FIRST day c which is just replacing the day 1 because we don't have floor times, but it's basically the first day we didn't have to follow our stupid schedules!! Whoopiee!! But I missed it. What for? For OASIS Camp Robin Hood Leadership Training!! It was a BLAST!! Well, not so much the long ass talk in the beginning, but the stuff after. We explored a reasonable amount of the camp and activities. We also had a very fun leader, Shelby. The activities we got to actually try were:
Marble Madness
Objective: To transport a golden egg back to its nest without touching it with your hands in the shortest amount of time.
Rules: Using the tubes provided, each member of the group has to transport the golden egg (golf ball) from point A to B. The group must maintain the same order throughout the activity and each member must have the egg pass through their tube at least once before returning it to the nest. Must restart if the egg drops or is touched.
Shrinking Island
Objective: Participants are challenged to keep their groups' place on the "shrinking island".
Rules: Everyone must fit onto the tarp which starts out full, then shrinks each time the task is a success. At least one foot must be on the tarp and you can't be on the grass.
Team Ski's
Objective: To travel between 2 designated points i nthe shortest time while remaining on the skis.
Rules: Teams have 3 minutes to decide on a strategy. Start on leader's call and asses a 10 second penalty if a body part touches the ground.
Variations: Have the group travel backwards or side-ways between points. Some people on the ski's are backwards. Some may have their eyes closed.
Spider Web
Objective: For the whole group to pass through the web without causing the strings to move, thus awakening the spide and being eaten.
Rules: Each group member should pass through the web one at a time. Each member must use a different hole.
Tension Traverse
Objective: For the group as a whole to travel the whole length of the series of cables without falling or stepping off. If someone falls or steps off the cable, that person, returns to the end of the line.
Rules: If a fall is imminent, participants should step off the cable and not pull off other participants.
Low Wall
Objective: To physically move a group over an 8" - 14" wall in an efficient and safe manner.
Rules: Max. 4 people allowed o nthe wall at all times (3 top, 1 climber). The sides may not be used in any way. Anyone not involved in climbing, should be spotting and after the climber reaches the top, if not part of the 3 top, then should come down to spot.
So, that's all of them lol. I had tons of fun on the Tension Traverse haha. Although, we didn't have more than 3 people on the cable at once, but when I was on it, I almost punched someone in the face haha. We were introduced to a lot of other activities, but didn't get a chance to try them. We were told about the Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Chocolate River, (all) High Ropes, (all) Low Ropes, Gilligan's Island, Whale Watch, and Trust Falls. It was definitely a fun-filled day. After every activity, there was a deprief where we had a little talk about what we learnt from each of the activities which was a nice reflection time. It was really fun for me just because I tried a lot of activities that I never would've done in grade 9. I remember being so afraid of trying Trust Falls back then, but now I was so eager to jump in and give it a shot.
So once we finished up at camp, we went back to school to meet our grade 9 teams! It was loud, crowded, and fun (of course)! This year, OASIS and Camp Robin Hood will be an experience I definitely won't forget about!
P.S. Big Happy Birthday to my close friend, Edward! Hope he had an AWESOME dayy! Now he's 16!! The big 16 that almost all girls wait for (Sweet 16!!). He is now the same age as me -_-...for a week and a half lol. This is sadd...
